WE ARE LOOKING AT EXTENDING THE AGE WE TAKE CHILDREN FROM WALKING – 4 YEARS. PLEASE EMAIL LISA ON LISAMREAD1@GMAIL.COM TO REGISTER YOUR INTEREST.

Findon Valley Free-Church pre-school was started up 50 years ago by two local ladies to cater for the lack of provision in the area. Since then, the pre-school has continued to grow and develop into the service that we provide today that caters for children aged from 2, up till they go to school, which runs in the main hall of the church. The setting employs Mary, our deputy manager, three qualified assistants (Michelle, Helen and Mandy) and two experienced assistants (Anne and Liz), as well as a manager (Lisa) who holds a BA in Early Years. The setting is overseen by a committee made up of members of the church, and is open and inclusive of children regardless of background and faith.

We are open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday morning from 9am – 12pm, 38 weeks of the year and also offer an extended day to 3pm.

Nature School

Currently on two of our afternoons we hold “nature school” sessions, which are loosely based on forest school principles. There is no age limit on these sessions, just the ability to walk to and from the forest area in all weathers! There are many studies into the benefits of Nature type schools on children, and they are great in developing all aspects of Personal, Social and Emotional development. We have updated our nature school this year so that one afternoon a week is spent out and about doing activities, and one afternoon is spent bringing this learning back to the classroom. Our nature school is run by Michelle Helen and Liz.

Early Years Foundation Stage

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage and move our children through their learning journey by building on their interests from home and also by planning activities around the children’s “next steps.”  We use online learning journals through a program called Tapestry where you can
log in  and see your child’s progress within the pre-school. We also hold termly parent meetings where we discuss the learning journal and any concerns/queries you may have.  However, if you do have a concern or query about anything in our pre school that is more urgent Lisa is available to speak to during some of our sessions or by email on lisamread1@gmail.com or by phone on 07881274651. You can find a parent’s copy of the Early Years Foundation Stage and what it means for your child here.
